£5.00 PEN Members

Since its foundation in 1982, the PEN/Ackerley Prize - formerly the JR Ackerley Prize - has established itself as the pre-eminent award for memoir and autobiography. Its list of winners reads like a roll call of British writing talent, for the judges are looking for both honesty and creativity, integrity and narrative skill. Extracts from this year's shortlisted books will be read by Paul Bhattarcharjee and Lia Williams, before the prize is presented by Peter Parker, chair of judges. The prizegiving will be followed by a reception with wine and canapes.

This year's shortlist:
The Presence by Dannie Abse (Hutchinson)
Who Is It That Can Tell Me Who I Am? by Jane Haynes (www.intheconsultingroom.com)
The Islamist by Ed Husain (Penguin)
Family Romance by John Lanchester (Faber)
In My Father's House by Miranda Seymour (Simon and Schuster)

Tickets include a complimentary glass of wine after the talk, courtesy of Waitrose Wine
