Writers in Translation call for submissions

August 4, 2009
Work from all languages, translated into English and published by a UK publisher, is eligible for a Writers in Translation grant. The programme functions with the assistance of Arts Council England and a grant from the news organisation Bloomberg. This year the panel will award grants of up to £4000 to publishers for the specific purpose of promoting and marketing a translated work published in 2006.
The submitted book may be fiction, non-fiction, poetry or prose. It should reflect PEN's values, exploring in some way themes of freedom of expression and human rights or contributing towards understanding across borders by illuminating aspects of another country, language or culture. Literary quality is paramount. The Committee will further base their decision on the quality of the translation.
