There are many ways to be involved and support Readers & Writers.
Readers & Writers takes the values of English PEN - creative freedom to write and read from a diverse body of literature - and brings them home to the UK. We bring published writers together with new readers and we encourage people to become new writers through learning in writing workshops. We work with people in prisons, refugees and asylum seekers and young people.
Attend Readers & Writers Events
Support us by attending a Readers & Writers event. We are holding our next events on Thursday January 28th 2010 and Thursday March 25th 2010 at the Free Word centre in Farringdon. Visit our events listings
Donate to Readers & Writers
Your donation can go directly to support our work with readers and writers in the UK. It can help fund a writer's visit in to prison or towards a workshop for refugees or asylum seekers. Any amount is beneficial to our programme and we are extremely grateful for your support.
Volunteer for Readers & Writers
From time to time, we do have opportunities for people to be involved as volunteers at Readers & Writers. This can involve, for example, proof-reading one of our groups' books, or being the English PEN representative at our workshops. Depending on what's available, this can involve an interview and training. Contact Philip Cowell in the first instance on philip@englishpen.org with your CV and a paragraph outlining your background and interests.
Become a Readers & Writers Activist!
English PEN is all about breaking down barriers through literature. If you want to be more involved in literature education, why not approach your local Refugee Community Organisation and offer to set up a writing or reading club for their service users?
