Aims of the Readers and Writers Programme

Aims of the programme:
The programme aims to underscore the promotion of literacy and literature across England, especially in underserved communities, by drawing readers and writers into a stimulating dialogue with an author.
It aims to encourage both children and adults to read more widely and more critically by addressing themes and issues that are meaningful to them and by introducing them to a writer to whom they can relate.
It aims to inspire readers by creating positive experiences with books and to challenge pre-conceptions about who can be a writer by introducing writers from a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
It aims to support teachers, education officers and literacy workers by providing a valuable resource and providing new ways of motivating students.
