How the programme works
How it works:
Programme staff organise carefully matched writer-site visits, giving readers and writers a chance to meet one another in an informal atmosphere with benefits to both.
The target group of readers prepares for the visit by reading one of the author's books with the support and encouragement of a staff person at the site. This book is donated by English PEN several weeks in advance, enabling the group to discuss it, prepare questions and run related activities as a build up to the visit.
Readers & Writers works with each site for up to three years, visiting different groups once or twice per year targeting different readers each time. As well as encouraging individual readers, the programme benefits teachers, education officers and other staff by showing them new ways of motivating their students.
