In the first half of 2011, PEN International’s WiPC monitored over 647 cases of attacks against writers, journalists, publishers and others. These include 24 killings and 176 long prison terms of which 107 were PEN main cases – those where it is clear that the reason for the arrest is linked to the person’s writings or legitimate and peaceful political activities. The case list also recorded 56 releases.
The caselist (available here in PDF format) provides brief summaries of all the cases recorded in the first half of 2011.
