Burma: Zargana released

***UPDATE: English PEN are stunned by the forty-five year sentence handed down to Honorary Member Zargana on 21 October 2008 for violating the Electronics Act. For more information, please click here.***

English PEN has received reports that the poet and comedian Zargana, arrested for his part in supporting the recent protests in Myanmar (Burma) on 25 September, has now been released. We warmly welcome this news, but continue to protest the ongoing detention of other Burmese writers and journalists. Zargana himself remains under heavy surveillance and restriction, as he has been for many years.
