China/Tibet: Tashi Rabten released

English PEN joins PEN International in warmly welcoming the 29 March 2014 release of Tibetan writer and editor Tashi Rabten (pen-name Te’urang) who had been serving a four-year prison sentence in connection with his critical writings

Tashi Rabten, co-editor of the banned Tibetan-language literary magazine Shar Dungri (Eastern Snow Mountain) was sentenced to a four-year prison term on 2 June 2011. It is believed that the year that Rabten spent in pre-trial detention counted towards the completion of the term. According to Radio Free Asia, there are concerns over his health following his release from prison. For more information, please see PEN International’s updates.

Thank you to all who took action on his behalf during his time in detention – we really appreciate your support.
