In November 2008, the Home Office introduced new restrictions on international artists and academics visiting the UK for talks, temporary exhibitions, concerts or artists’ residencies
As a reult of these changes, many visiting artists who had previously been allowed into the UK for short periods to promote their work, found they could no longer gain entry to the UK.
English PEN has been working with the Manifesto Club and the Visual Arts and Galleries Association to campaign for reform of the UK visa system. Our aim is to ensure that there are quick, cheap and effective routes for writers and artists to visit the UK and engage with British audiences.
