Join English PEN for our monthly vigils in support of Raif Badawi, Waleed Abulkhair and Ashraf Fayadh

English PEN has been holding regular vigils outside the Saudi Embassy in London in support of imprisoned blogger Raif Badawi and his lawyer Waleed Abulkhair since January 2015 when Badawi was first flogged for his peaceful activism. More than a year later, we are continuing to call for the immediate and unconditional release of Badawi and Abulkhair.

We are also calling for the Palestinian poet and artist Ashraf Fayadh’s immediate release. While we were relieved to learn in February that the death sentence handed down to Fayadh had been overturend we were shocked that the conviction for apostasy was not been reversed and by the harsh new punishment ordered by the court: 8 years in prison, 800 lashes, a fine of 50,000 Saudi Riyals, and a public apology.

Please join us on Friday 20 May from 9 – 10am for a peaceful vigil at the Saudi Arabian Embassy in London. Activists are asked to meet at the Curzon Street entrance to the Embassy. (note: the postal address of the Embassy is 30-32 Charles Street, Mayfair, London).

Let us know if you plan to attend and invite your friends and colleagues #FreeRaif #FreeWaleed #FreeAshraf
