In 2016 Oxford historian Nicholas Stargardt was awarded the  PEN Hessell-Tiltman Prize for The German War: A Nation under Arms, 1939-1945. In 2014 Cambridge historian David Reynolds was   awarded the same prize for The Long Shadow: The Great War and the 20th Century – the basis of his BBC 2 TV series. Join Nicholas and David as they discuss why Germany and Britain have  found it so hard to come to terms with their wars and to cope with the ambiguous legacies of defeat and victory.
