Read: a poem written by an older person with dementia who took part in a recent PEN project

Want people to know what it’s like

I’m thinking about eggs
And she’s talking about work
As if everything is the same but it ain’t
Everything and everyone is different
Everybody don’t sink the same
Or feel the same.
You can listen to everything and
Not listen a word they say
I can’t make it right
We all think we’re different
Not think of anybody else
Listen, I’m thinking about eggs

This poem came out of a project English PEN ran with Living Words in partnership with the European Commission Representation in the United Kingdom.
