Read: a poem written by an older person with dementia who took part in a recent PEN project

Forgotten

Don’t remember
One is in the habit of forgetting things a lot
You see, getting in to my mind
It’s amazing
Sometimes can talk about things and jump
From subject and throws up questions
Should ask this, ask that
Did I ask what I’d forgotten to ask?
There’s a wiggle and there’s a waggle
How could one describe the difference between the two?

This poem came out of a project English PEN ran with Living Words in partnership with the European Commission Representation in the United Kingdom.
