Wetherspooning

Mark Niel

There are limits, there are laws and

surely they must have broken them;

tying themselves into love knots

in full view of the regulars.

This is the temple of Dionysus

not Aphrodite, no matter how

often one leads to the other.

Sky’s football pundits criticise

the lad’s clumsy tactics, her poor defence.

Tuts and glances of death and envy

gain no ground as they change ends.

Mild tastes bitter as real life intrudes.

The couple leave for extra time;

Both they and the pub feel like they’ve scored.
