The Readers & Writers Team at English PEN is delighted to announce the publication of The Book That Saved My Life, the fifth collection of creative writing to be produced by the programme.
The book collects the winning and commended entries to English PEN’s ‘Writing Freedom’ competition. Men and women from the UK prison population were invited to submit a piece of life writing, or a review of a book that has been important to them, on the theme of freedom.
The winning entries were ‘The Book That Saved My Life’ by Danny Cash of HMP Gartree, and ‘I Had A Beginning’ by Stephen Barraclough of HMP Lewes. The book is available to read and download online.
The Book That Saved My Life was funded by Arts Council England and The Monument Trust.
