Writing competition for prisoners 2013: open for entries

This year’s English PEN writing competition for prisoners has been launched, with poet and novelist Jackie Kay judging the entries.

Jackie chose the themes for the competition, saying, “I hope these choices will spark some surprising writing.” They are “My first love”, “In my imagination” and “Memorable journeys”.

There is also a new category this year: Flash Fiction (approx 300 words), which is open to 15 – 21 year olds.

The winning and commended entries will be published in a chapbook, and there will be cash prizes for the 16 winners.

The entry form is available to download below. The closing date is 30th November, although we will consider entries which arrive by Monday 4th  December. Any further questions, please email Irene on irene@englishpen.org.

Good luck!
