This December, we are joining forces with colleagues at Amnesty International, Freedom Now and PEN International to call for the release of well-known poet Mohammed al-‘Ajami, known as Ibn al-Dheeb.
Mohammed al-‘Ajami is currently serving 15 years in prison for a poem. On 24 December, he spent yet another birthday – his 40th – in prison and away from his family, while 25 December marks his 1500th day in prison.
We are calling on the Qatari authorities to release al-‘Ajami immediately and unconditionally. Please join us by adding your name to our petition.
We plan to deliver the petition to the Qatari Embassy in London and to hold a peaceful protest in support of al-‘Ajami on 25 February 2016. Please let us know if you would be interested in joining us by emailing [email protected].
We are also encouraging our supporters to send messages to al-‘Ajami as part of our annual Season’s Greetings initiative. Do let us know if you would be interested in sending a card.
For more information on his case please see the latest release from our friends at Amnesty Gulf.
