In October’s Talking Tuesday WiPC members Trevor Mostyn and Carole Seymour Jones talked about their recent mission to Belarus and the current situation for writers and journalists there.
They met the wife of English PEN’s honorary member Yury Bandazhevsky, and the journalists Mikola Markovich and Pavel Mozheiko as well as exploring the various problems facing outspoken writers and journalists.
Yury Bandazhevsky blew the whistle on a government cover-up of the impact of cesium 137 radiation from the 1986 accident at the Chernobyl nuclear reactor.Though they were prevented from meeting Bandazhevsky in person, Trevor and Carole were able to have several meetings with his wife Galina.
You can read more about the visit in the following report: WiPC Belarus Report.
Our thanks to Trevor and Carole for an illuminating and very worthwhile talk.
