English PEN defends the right to freedom of expression in the UK and internationally. We champion the most exciting new literature in translation and give young people and refugees the opportunity to discover their own creative abilities.
We are the founding member of a world-wide network of 140 PEN centres and we are working towards celebrating our centenary in 2021. Our members include many prominent writers, editors and publishers as well as students and people at the start of their careers. Over the years we have benefitted from the support of Stephen Fry, Hanif Kureishi, Ali Smith, David Hare, Tom Stoppard, Salman Rushdie, Carol Ann Duffy and many more.
With our Interim Director, Antonia Byatt, we are developing an ambitious three year strategy leading up to the centenary, which will include consolidating our recent organisational review, building our membership, an exciting high profile events programme and new campaigns – needed now more than ever – around freedom of expression. We continue to highlight and support writers at risk across the world.
We are recruiting new board members to work with our Chair, Maureen Freely, and other board members.
In particular, we are looking for new board members with fundraising and commercial skills. We are looking for people who have experience and knowledge of high-value giving, developing membership schemes and commercial experience to enable us to help grow our profile and income base.
If you are share our values and our excited by our future we’d love to hear from you. Please contact Antonia Byatt for a chat in the first instance on 020 7324 2535 or send in your CV and a covering letter telling us about your interest and experience to antonia[at]englishpen[dot]org.
Closing date: Monday 6 November 2017.
