Russia: PEN publishes Oleg Sentsov’s short stories in translation

PEN is proud to publish three short stories by imprisoned writer and filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, translated by Dr Uilleam Blacker. Prominent Ukrainian writer and filmmaker Oleg Sentsov was sentenced to 20 years in prison in August 2015 on terrorism charges after a grossly unfair trial by a Russian military court, marred by allegations of torture. He has been on hunger strike since 14 May 2018 to urge the Russian authorities to release all Ukrainians unfairly imprisoned in Russia. More information and suggested actions here. Read his stories 'Autobiography', 'Dog', and 'Testament'.
Dr Uilleam Blacker is an academic and translator specialising in Ukrainian, Polish and Russian literature. His translations of contemporary Ukrainian literature have appeared in numerous publications, including Modern Poetry in Translation, Words Without Borders and Dalkey Archive's Best European Fiction series. These stories were first published in Russian by Laurus Press in Tales (2015). TAKE ACTION Send messages of support Please send messages of solidarity to Oleg Sentsov and his family via [email protected] We will then arrange for these to be translated into Russian. Spread the word Share his work with friends and colleagues and on social media #FreeSentsov
