While roughly 4.5% of literature in the UK is translated, only a fraction of translated literature is penned by women writers. This International Women’s Day (8 March), we are celebrating women writers from around the world and their translators with a World Bookshelf giveaway – four lucky winners will receive a stack of great PEN award-winning works of fiction, non-fiction and poetry by women writers from Sri Lanka, France, Brazil, Finland, Turkey, Spain, Syria, Mexico and more.
To win, tell us: what’s your favourite book in translation by a woman writer?
Email your entries to [email protected], and tweet them to us @englishpen! We’ll choose the winners on Wednesday 9 March.
Read this week’s PEN Atlas: Women writers in translation to read right now by writer and illustrator Joanna Walsh.
The World Bookshelf is an online collection of the very best contemporary literature in translation, supported by English PEN’s Writers in Translation programme.
