ITD 2019 | Translation Clinics

International Translation Day, the largest coming-together for the UK translation communtiy, will be held at Free Word on 30 September.

For those with an ITD ticket, there are 20 spaces for the daytime translation clinics with Antonia Lloyd-Jones and Ros Schwartz. Translators can bring issues (small or large) to discuss with colleagues and facilitators in a non-language-specific forum.

About the facilitators

Antonia Lloyd-Jones translates from Polish, and in 2019 her translation of Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk was shortlisted for the Man Booker International award. In 2018 she won the Transatlantyk Award for the most outstanding promoter of Polish literature abroad. She has translated works by several of Poland’s leading contemporary novelists and reportage authors, as well as crime fiction, poetry and children’s books. She is a mentor for the Emerging Translators’ Mentorship Programme, and former co-chair of the UK Translators Association.

Over the past four decades Ros Schwartz has translated over 90 fiction and non-fiction titles from French. In 2010, she published a new translation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince, and more recently Mireille Gansel’s Translation as Transhumance, and she is one of the team re-translating the novels of Georges Simemon for Penguin Classics. She gives talks and masterclasses around the world and is co-chair of the PEN Translates committee. In 2009 she was made a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and in 2017 she was the recipient of the UK Institute of Translation and Interpreting’s John Sykes Memorial Prize for Excellence.
