Hans Ertl has an unquenchable thirst for adventure. Fleeing post-war Germany, he and his two eldest daughters set off in search of Paitití – an ancient Inca city in the rainforest. The expedition will open the girls’ eyes to poverty, rural beauty and love. But Hans will not find Paitití.
Instead, his expedition causes the breakdown of his family. Against the backdrop of the Bolivian revolution, each of his children sets off on a solitary path of her own.
Affections is a haunting tale about the search to find ourselves, and the unbridgeable distances it carries us from those we love.
