English PEN’s prison programme begins a new exciting project with long term prisoners in the North East.

Writer Sheila Mulhern, with support from the librarians, will work with men and women over 4 months using memoir, autobiography and journals to elicit personal recollection, self reflection and learning.

This will culminate in two final showcase events in December with the prisoners, their completed journals, invited writers, prison staff and English PEN.
